HONG KONG – HARBOUR OF HONG KONG, BY THOMAS ALLOM, 1843.

 HARBOUR OF HONG KONG.

An attractive steel line engraving  of Hong Kong harbour by Thomas Allom. The present print was produced to accompany " China in a series of views" by Thomas Allom, first published London 1843. There was huge interest in the Far East during this period, as both China and Japan were largely closed to Europeans at this time. The end of the First Opium War (1839-1842) forced China to open more ports to Europeans and Hong Kong Island was ceded to the British, opening up the area.

Measures approx. 190 x 130 mm. Very good condition, see photo. .

Hand coloured.

A guaranteed genuine antique engraving.
