IRAN – A NEW MAP OF PERSIA BY A. OLEARIUS, CIRCA 1656

An important and attractive copper line engraved map of Persia by Olearius. published circa 1656. Adam Olearius had travelled to Persia with a trade mission between 1635 and 1639. His map therefore represents a milestone in the mapping of Persia, as it draws on personal knowledge from his travels in the area and Islamic sources. This map is the first to begin to show the Caspian sea as elongated.

 Measures approx. 385 x 520 mm. Good condition. Some old tape repair on the verso.
