NOVA SCOTIA AND NEWFOUNDLAND

A highly decorative map of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland published by John Tallis, probably one of the best known map-makers and publishers of the 19th Century. The maps were published circa 1850 and are considered to be the last series of decorative maps of the world. Contained within an elaborate border the maps are generally decorated with vignettes and scenes depicting particular scenes and local inhabitants. The present map of "Nova Scotia and Newfoundland" has views of Halifax and fishing off Newfoundland. The map was drawn and engraved by John Rapkin while the illustrations are drawn by A. Fussell and engraved by J. Rodgers.

Measures approx. 250 x 320 mm. Excellent condition.
