VECTIS INSULA.

A stunning seventeenth century copper line engraving on paper showing the Isle of Wight. The present map was produced by the Blaeu publishing house in Amsterdam, to accompany Joan Blaeu's "Le Theatre du Monde, ou Nouvelle Atlas", the fourth volume focusing on England and Wales was first published, during the English Civil War, in 1645. Highly decorative with Royal arms and title cartouche. Latin text on verso 1645-8.
