UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, EXHIBITING THE SEAT OF WAR ON THE CANADIAN FRONTIER FROM 1812 TO 1815

Scarce line engraved map by Samuel Neele, published in Leeds in 1816. 

The map details the eastern United States including the plains region to the west of the Mississippi River. The large inset shows the Theater of War around Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, including several forts and strategic roads. The main map also shows many early forts, trading houses of the Hudson's Bay Company, and the locations of Indian Tribes in the old Northwest. Michigan Territory is named, pre-dating the first separate map of Michigan Territory. Mississippi Territory is shown, pre-dating the creation of Alabama Territory. The map is filled with early settlement locations and Indian villages. Inset with a "Chart of Lakes Erie & Ontario on an Enlarged Scale," where much of the action took place during the war. Measures approx. 330 x 380 mm. Good condition, see photo.
